Ingredients

Dry Ingredients:
  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • ½ tsp ground ginger
  • ¼ tsp ground nutmeg
Wet Ingredients:
  • ¾ cup unsalted butter softened
  • ½ cup natural honey
  • ¾ cup brown sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ cup buttermilk
  • Zest of 2 oranges
  • ½ cup fresh orange juice

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 10-inch bundt pan with butter and dust lightly with flour.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, ginger, and nutmeg. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, beat butter, honey, and brown sugar until fluffy (3–4 minutes).
  4. Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla extract.
  5. Mix in orange zest and orange juice.
  6. Alternately fold the dry ingredients and buttermilk into the wet ingredients. Start and end with dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared bundt pan and smooth the top.
  8. Bake for 45–55 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  9. Let the cake cool in the pan for 10–15 minutes, then invert onto a wire rack. Optionally, drizzle with honey or an orange glaze.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, top the cake with thin orange slices or a light dusting of powdered sugar.
  • This cake also works well as mini bundts—just reduce baking time to 20–25 minutes.
  • Store in an airtight container at room temperature for 3 days or in the fridge up to a week.
