Ingredients

For the Brownies:
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 ½ cups sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup cocoa powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • For the Halva Layer:
  • 1 cup tahini halva crumbled
  • 2 tbsp black sesame seeds plus extra for topping
  • ¼ cup honey or maple syrup
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
Optional: chocolate chips or chopped nuts

Method

  1. Prep the pan: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x9-inch pan and line with parchment paper.
  2. Make the brownie batter: Melt butter in a saucepan. Remove from heat and mix in sugar. Add eggs one at a time, then vanilla. Sift in flour, cocoa powder, and salt. Stir gently until combined.
  3. Prepare the halva layer: In a bowl, crumble tahini halva. Mix with black sesame seeds, honey, and vanilla to form a thick paste.
  4. Layer the brownie and halva: Pour half the brownie batter into the pan. Add spoonfuls of halva mixture on top and swirl lightly. Pour remaining brownie batter over halva layer.
  5. Bake: Bake for 30–35 minutes. Toothpick should come out with a few moist crumbs.
  6. Cool and serve: Let cool 15 minutes, slice, and sprinkle extra black sesame seeds on top.

Notes

  • For extra fudgy brownies, slightly underbake and let them cool completely in the pan.
  • You can swap honey with maple syrup for a vegan-friendly option.
  • Store in an airtight container for up to 4 days. Freeze slices for longer storage.
