Ingredients
  

For the Dough:
  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 ½ tsp active dry yeast
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • cup whole milk warm
  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter softened
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon
  • Vegetable oil for frying
For the Sweet Cream Filling:
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup cornstarch
  • 4 large egg yolks
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 tsp orange zest optional, for festive flavor
For Dusting / Decoration:
  • Powdered sugar
Optional red and green sugar sprinkles

Method
 

  1. Activate Yeast:
  2. In a small bowl, mix warm milk and yeast. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
  3. Make Dough:
  4. In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, salt, and cinnamon. Add yeast mixture, eggs, softened butter, and vanilla extract. Mix until dough forms. Knead 5–7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Cover and let rise 1–2 hours until doubled.
  5. Make Sweet Cream Filling:
  6. Heat milk in a saucepan until just simmering. In a separate bowl, whisk egg yolks, sugar, and cornstarch. Slowly pour hot milk into egg mixture while whisking. Return to saucepan and cook on low, stirring until thick. Remove from heat, add butter, vanilla, and orange zest. Cool completely.
  7. Shape Donuts:
  8. Roll dough on floured surface to ½-inch thickness. Cut circles with a round cutter. Place on parchment-lined sheet, cover lightly, let rise 30 minutes.
  9. Fry Donuts:
  10. Heat oil to 350°F (175°C). Fry donuts 2–3 minutes per side until golden. Drain on paper towels.
  11. Fill Donuts:
  12. Transfer sweet cream to piping bag with small round tip. Insert into donut side or top, fill generously. Dust with powdered sugar and sprinkle festive red/green sugar if desired.

Notes

  • Fry donuts in small batches for best results.
  • Don’t overfill with cream to avoid spilling.
  • Can make dough and filling a day ahead, fry and fill before serving.
