Ingredients

  • 2 medium ripe bananas firm, not mushy
  • 2 tablespoons peanut butter or sunflower butter if nut-free
  • 1 tablespoon mini chocolate chips for eyes
  • 6 –8 blueberries or grapes for decoration
  • 2 small pretzel sticks or thin celery pieces for antennae

Method

  1. Slice the bananas. Cut bananas into ½-inch slices.
  2. Line them up. Place slices in a curve on a plate to form the caterpillar’s body.
  3. Add peanut butter glue. Spread a thin layer of peanut butter between the slices to hold them together.
  4. Make the face. Take the first slice at the end and press in two mini chocolate chips for eyes. Add a blueberry or grape as the nose.
  5. Add antennae. Insert two pretzel sticks or celery slivers into the “head” slice.
  6. Decorate the body. Place blueberries or grapes along the top to add color.
  7. Serve right away. Enjoy fresh before the bananas brown.

Notes

  • Best served fresh. If you want to prep ahead, brush banana slices with a little lemon juice to slow browning.
  • For toddlers, skip pretzel sticks (choking hazard) and use only soft fruit for eyes.
  • Try swapping peanut butter with sunflower butter, cream cheese, or yogurt for allergy-friendly versions.
