Ingredients
  

  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 4 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour sifted
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
Optional: light dusting powdered sugar for topping

Method
 

Step 1: Preheat
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking dish with butter.
Step 2: Mix Eggs and Sugar
  1. Crack the eggs into a large bowl.
  2. Add sugar.
  3. Whisk until pale and slightly creamy. Do not overbeat.
Step 3: Add Milk and Butter
  1. Slowly pour in the milk while whisking gently.
  2. Add melted butter, vanilla, and salt.
  3. Mix until smooth.
Step 4: Add Flour
  1. Sift the flour into the mixture slowly.
  2. Whisk well until there are no lumps.
  3. The batter will be thin. That is normal.
Step 5: Pour and Bake
  1. Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish.
  2. Place it in the oven.
  3. Bake for 45–55 minutes.
  4. The top should turn light golden.
  5. The center should be set but slightly soft.
Step 6: Cool
  1. Remove from oven.
  2. Let it cool completely at room temperature.
  3. Do not cut while hot.
Step 7: Slice and Serve
  1. Cut into squares.
  2. Dust lightly with powdered sugar if desired.
  3. Serve at room temperature or slightly chilled.

Notes

  • Use whole milk. Lower fat milk makes it less creamy.
  • Always sift the flour. It helps avoid lumps.
  • Do not overbake. The center should have a slight jiggle.
  • Let it cool fully before slicing or it may fall apart.
  • It tastes even better the next day.
